Delicate As a Flower
It is amazing that something as delicate as a flower can have so much power. Flowers can melt the heart of a woman when sent from the right man. The blossoms attract bees, one of the most important insects on the planet. In the 1960’s the Hippie Movement believed that “Flower Power” could end the Vietnam War.
My first book, titled Quintessential Redneck is a memoir of my sheltered life growing up in 1960’s. I never saw an actual hippie except for on TV until 1971 when my grandfather took us to the Grand Canyon. My grandfather was quite a character. He wanted a better view. When he climbed over the fence and walked out on a ledge with the toes of his cowboy boots only an inch from the edge, that is when I spotted two hippies. The long haired individuals shouted “Oh man he’s gonna jump” and turned and ran back down the sidewalk behind us. Hopefully, those guys got to enjoy the powerful beauty of the canyon. My grandfather sure did, and by the grace of God, without getting hurt!
In the Gospel of Luke chapter 12 beginning in verses 27 it reads: Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! Certainly a lot of power is associated with this delicate form of vegetation. The power does not originate from the flower itself, but rather from the creator of the flower.
